Tadej Pogacar Wins Stage 4 of Tour de France 2025, Secures 100th Career Victory
Rouen, France – Slovenia’s Tadej Pogacar claimed a dramatic victory in stage 4 of the Tour de France 2025 on Tuesday. He overtook Mathieu van der Poel in a thrilling sprint finish and reached the 100th win of his professional career.
The 174.2 km route from Amiens to Rouen ended in a high-speed dash among the top contenders. Pogacar, the reigning world champion and leader of UAE Team Emirates, surged past Van der Poel just before the finish line. Jonas Vingegaard from Visma-Lease a Bike, a two-time Tour winner, crossed the line in third place.

Early in the stage, four riders — Lenny Martinez, Jonas Abrahamsen, Thomas Gachignard, and Kasper Asgreen — broke away from the peloton. But Van der Poel’s Alpecin-Deceuninck team quickly took control and kept the group within reach.
The final 50 km delivered the expected drama, with five categorized climbs. Martinez led the breakaway the longest, but the peloton caught him with 20 km to go. This happened shortly after a crash disrupted several riders in the bunch.
UAE Team Emirates took the front on the penultimate climb. Then Visma-Lease a Bike pushed the pace hard on the descent, preparing for late attacks. Pogacar made his move on the final climb, but Vingegaard stayed on his wheel. Five more riders, including Van der Poel, joined them to form a lead group.
Van der Poel launched the sprint first, hoping to win his second stage in three days. But Pogacar responded with a powerful final burst and crossed the line ahead of him. Thanks to the bonus seconds, Pogacar also erased the four-second gap in the general classification and now shares the lead.
