OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma City Thunder are now just one win away from clinching the 2025 NBA Championship after defeating the Indiana Pacers 120-109 in a pivotal Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Jalen Williams delivered a career playoff-high 40 points, while MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 31 points and 10 assists, leading the Thunder to a commanding 3-2 series lead.
This dynamic duo has now combined for 70+ points in a game for the 10th time this postseason, but Monday night’s performance was undoubtedly their most significant.
Despite trailing by 18 points late in the second quarter, the Pacers — known as the comeback kings of the 2025 NBA Playoffs — fought back once again. With Tyrese Haliburton limited by a leg injury, Indiana leaned on Pascal Siakam, who dropped 28 points, and TJ McConnell, who energized the team with 13 points in just seven minutes during the third quarter.
A deep three-pointer from Siakam narrowed the gap to just two points midway through the fourth quarter, but the Thunder responded with a decisive run, silencing the rally and sealing the win.
Historically, teams that win Game 5 in a 2-2 NBA Finals go on to win the series 74% of the time (23 out of 31 times). Even more telling, teams holding a 3-2 lead have closed out the Finals 82% of the time (40 out of 49 series).
With momentum, statistics, and home-court confidence on their side, the Oklahoma City Thunder are now just one victory away from their first NBA title since 1979 (as the Seattle SuperSonics).
Game 6 between the Thunder and Pacers tips off Thursday night in Indiana, with everything on the line.
