007: First Light – IO Interactive Reveals a Bold New James Bond Origin Game

IO Interactive has finally revealed the title of its upcoming James Bond game: 007: First Light. This marks a fresh take on the iconic spy, focusing on a younger Bond before he becomes 007. Players can expect a full reveal and mission briefing later this week.

The announcement comes with a powerful tagline: “Earn The Number in 007: First Light.” This hints at a story-driven adventure where you’ll guide Bond through the trials that earn him double-0 status. In the teaser image, Bond appears in a bomber-style jacket, holding what looks like a Walther PPK—far from the classic tuxedo look.

According to the game’s website:

“007: First Light is a brand-new James Bond video game. IO Interactive developed and published it, offering a unique origin story. Players will step into the shoes of the world’s most famous secret agent and earn the 00 status.”

Clearly inspired by Casino Royale, the game focuses on Bond’s path to becoming a killer with a license. IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak explained more about the project. He shared that the story is completely original and not based on any film. This allows the team to build a truly fresh Bond experience.

“We created this Bond from the ground up for gamers,” Abrak said. “The history and tradition of Bond are thrilling. We’re building a young Bond that players can grow with. One they can call their own.”

Abrak also mentioned the partnership with the Broccoli family, long-time producers of the Bond franchise. While Amazon MGM now owns the Bond rights, this game may be the final version they approved. That makes it a key moment in Bond’s legacy.
